Event discovery for paddling communities Background
Clubs and federations rely on events to keep communities active, but the practical information around those events can easily become scattered across calendars, posts, emails, and local knowledge. The app concept focused on making it easier for paddlers to understand what was happening and whether an activity was relevant for them.
Event discovery for paddling communities The challenge
The experience had to support both new paddlers who needed reassurance and experienced members who simply wanted the facts. Too much detail would slow browsing down, but too little would make it harder to decide whether to join.
Event discovery for paddling communities How we worked
I shaped the flow around the questions people ask before attending: what is it, where is it, when does it happen, what level is expected, and what do I need to prepare? Those questions became the basis for event cards, filtering, and detail pages.
Event discovery for paddling communities Key decisions
  • Put date, location, discipline, and skill level up front so users could judge fit without digging.
  • Keep event cards scannable while reserving detail pages for preparation, practical notes, and sign-up context.
  • Use a flexible mobile structure that could support many event types without requiring custom design for each one.
Event discovery for paddling communities The outcome
The outcome was a focused event app concept with clearer discovery, readable event detail pages, and a path that helped people move from curiosity to participation with less uncertainty.
Event discovery for paddling communities What changed
The concept gave organizers and product stakeholders a more concrete way to discuss event information: what should be visible early, what belongs deeper in the flow, and what makes people feel ready to show up.
Event discovery for paddling communities What stayed with me
Community products often succeed by respecting small practical questions. When those questions are answered clearly, participation feels less like a commitment and more like a natural next step.
